Charity swimming teaching in Zanzibar -swimming changes lives

The "Swimming Changes Life" project was launched in May 2021 as a pilot project and the project will continue!

Located in Zanzibar, one of the world's largest coral reefs is situated. This island located on the east coast of Africa is also at the top of the statistics in terms of drowning deaths. Thousands of people drown every year, as 75% of the population cannot swim.

FitPit wants to change these statistics and also contribute to the protection of marine ecosystems, in which coral reefs play an important role.

FitPit will return to Zanzibar again in May 2023

We received Finnpartnership funding for the project, which allows us to continue improving the lives of the people of Zanzibar by teaching them swimming skills. In May 2023, we will return to Zanzibar again. We will teach the locals to achieve safe swimming skills and educate them on the importance of protecting the oceans. Additionally, we will train swimming teachers in Zanzibar, so that our efforts to improve swimming skills will continue and our project will be on a sustainable footing. The funding only covers part of the costs, so we hope for your support as well!

Training local swimming teachers is an important part of FitPit's responsibility values.

We believe this project will create new jobs, develop local businesses, and improve individuals' empowerment and quality of life. Our goal is to develop business together with the locals.

Water and the sea have always been close to FitPit's heart. We are concerned about the oceans: overfishing, pollution and littering are destroying the oceans, which has a big impact on our future and climate change. FitPit is ready to act on behalf of human lives, oceans and coral reefs! Did you know that according to WHO, more than 200,000 people drown annually and this death toll is almost two thirds that of malnutrition and well over half that of malaria. The problem is huge on a global scale.

FitPit taught swimming to 40 people during the pilot project

The pilot project was carried out between 21.5 and 13.6.2021. During the pilot, we taught swimming to 40 people and trained 3 swimming teachers. In 2023, our goal is to teach 150-300 people how to swim and train 15 local swimming teachers. This creates a foundation for sustainable development and local business, which FitPit wants to be involved in developing in the future.

FitPit fully funded the pilot project on its own,
but for future projects, we need your help!

We will keep you posted how much money is donated for 2023 project.

FitPit donation = 10 000€
Donated by individuals = 602€
